Not Satisfied with the Speed of Your 4G Router? Here Are Some Tips to Boost It.
1) Check the 4G signal strength
Weak signal is a major cause of slow 4G router speeds. Try moving the router closer to a window or higher up to get better signal reception.
4G routers need at least > -101dBm 4G-LTE signal reception to work; below is the mobile signal quality chart for reference, and you can refer to the tutorial https://ezen.link/signal-test to check your current signal reception.
If your signal is weak, we offer a high-gain external 4G antenna to help boost the signal.
Outdoor 4G LTE MIMO Panel Antenna with 5m cable sma is recommended for indoor 4G routers.
LPDA Outdoor 4G Cellular Log-periodic Antenna is recommended for outdoor 4G routers.
2. Ensure there is no signal obstruction
Large structures like walls, buildings and metal objects can block the 4G signal and slow down speeds.
To avoid interference, try relocating the router away from any heavy obstructions and other RF devices ( > 3 meters), especially high-power radio frequency devices and antennas.
Maybe the WiFi signals have been blocked by obstructions; please also test the speed by LAN.
You can take a picture of your current installation environment and send it to sales@outdoorrouter.com for checking.
3. Set APN parameters
Please verify the accurate APN address for your current data plan with the operator.
Then refer to the tutorial on https://ezen.link/APN to modify the APN parameters.
4. Restart your 4G router
A simple restart can fix many technical issues with the router and refresh its 4G connectivity.
Unplug the router for a few minutes and then plug it back in to restart it.
5. Update the router’s firmware
Outdated router firmware can sometimes cause speed issues. Log into your router’s web interface and check if there are any available updates. Update to the latest firmware to get any performance improvements.
Here you can download the latest firmware and check the upgrade tutorial on https://ezen.link/firmware/.
6. Try switching to a different SIM card
If you’re getting very poor speeds with your current 4G SIM, switching to a different SIM, or one from an alternate carrier may provide faster speeds in your location.
7. Contact your network carrier
If you continue facing issues with consistently slow speeds in a location where you previously had much faster speeds, it’s possible there is a more technical problem with the carrier network that requires their support to investigate and fix. For example, the plan has reached its data limit or the speed is limited by the carriers due to the data plan doesn’t support use on the router. Give your network carrier a call and explain your issue.
8. Consider upgrading to a higher-grade mobile module
If your current modem is a cat4 or cat6 model, you can contact us to upgrade to a higher-grade model.
The speed test app depends on the remote server. There is no 100% accurate way to determine the speed rate. The most accurate way is to download a real package and divide the package size by download period.
Trying the above steps should help resolve many common causes of slow speeds with 4G routers. However, also be aware that 4G speeds in your area can vary at times due to network usage demands and coverage. Speeds may improve at off-peak times when network congestion is lower. But for persistent slow speed problems, additional troubleshooting and technical support may be needed; you can enable the Traversal-Cloud (www.traversalcloud.com), and tell us your cloud address and router’s password. We can check your router status and settings remotely.
